Children of a lesser God - II

We need to find a way to make lots of money and pay our bills, because the society we are a part of, rates us on the amount of money we make, the clothes we wear, the cars we drive and the smartphones we use. Being a good person isn’t any longer about having morals and integrity - it’s all about contributing more to the socioeconomic structure that is in place. Firstly I need to figure out how I am going to finish this semester because I can't understand half of my subjects; then fix the broken screen on my phone and get a new laptop, buy a new bed, and finally trying to make my life more comfortable. If I get to do all that then I will probably care about a dying turtle and the endangered habitat it lives in. This is why we are a generation of cynical, sarcastic, narcissistic jerks. We grow up with love for nature and animals, with our parents and teachers telling us we can become whatever we want and change the world - make it a better place. But as we get older, we realize that we are not in control, and that we don't have the power to see any significant results of our idealistic ideas in our lifetime. As we grow older, we stop caring about making the world a better place for everyone, and try to get as much out of life for ourselves as we can, just like the generations before us and the ones before them did. It's hard to be positive about a peaceful and environmentally-friendly world when we will not live long enough to witness it.

You want to know something? It won't get better. All this hunger, poverty, pollution, rioting and chaos. It'll get progressively worse. It'll get worse step by step by step, so that no one questions the rate of the chaos and the abject nature of humanity's most repressed.

You must realize that a huge majority of the people you'll see walking down the street don't even care about this. All they want is their pay-checks, their football games, their magazines and that's all; they're committed to living a life of contentment and they simply don't want any thing more from their lives, because what they have is enough till the end of their lives.

That is why we cannot rely on each other, you can't just say "let's just convince everyone to save the planet" because, contrary to our rational thoughts and beliefs, nobody cares. People aren't raised to be concerned or even be aware of the things that the few of us are fighting for, they are raised to do their work, pay taxes, go shopping, go on vacations and to have fun. Let's not even try to deny this fact because if you just look at how our school programs run you'll realize what I'm saying is true. That's why 'humanity' or 'morals' or 'ecology' will never be a big political issue, because there will never be enough intelligent and caring people to compete with the amount of people who vote for their own policies, their own people and their own pockets.

You must understand that the Earth's health and the fate of our species is less important, for every person you'll meet, than how much money they should get at the end of the month just because they have a family to feed or because they are more occupied with how many rights they deserve.

It's all about priorities. You want to know the worst part of it? Do you really think the governments, committees and banks will waste money to save the earth? They literally have no interests in doing that, because at the end of the day it won't bring them more money than they put in to it. Ultimately, it's all about money in this world. If the balance sheets show a red at the end of their estimates, then it can't be done.

I really hope it wouldn't be that way. You might say I'm being pessimistic, but the truth is that these days I don't really see a difference between my views and being realistic!
